Panasonic SRG06FG Review

Panasonic may have one of the broadest ranges of electronic products available, but despite such an impressive line of often (seemingly unrelated) products, their rice cookers are considered some of the best available. In Japan, Panasonic rice cookers are considered to be the top of the line, and their western constituency is equally as large.

The Panasonic SRG06FG 3-Cup Automatic Rice Cooker is currently one of their most popular products. Priced at just under $30, the Panasonic SRG06FG 3-Cup Automatic Rice Cooker has a range of quality features, and is used by thousands of households across the country.

Product Features of the Panasonic SRG06FG 3-Cup Automatic Rice Cooker

The list of features on this Panasonic rice cooker includes:

·        An automatic shut off function once the rice is complete.

·        A non-stick pot for easy serving and cleaning.

·        A glass lid to monitor the rice.

·        A keep warm feature to help the rice stay ready for serving.

·        A very light weight – only 3.5 lbs.

·        Stay cool handles for safe serving.

Pros

The Panasonic SRG06FG 3-Cup Automatic Rice Cooker is inexpensive, costing as much as 1/10th the price of some of the more advanced rice cookers. Yet despite the low cost, the rice cooker does a very good job with most types of rice. Provided it is kept in low quantities (the compact 3 cup rice cooker leaves very little room for extra rice in its pot), the rice keeps a good flavor, stays fluffy, and does not stick to the pan. It is also very lightweight, and capable of handling other types of foods, such as oatmeal.

The cool handles for serving are a nice addition, and the keep warm feature works well. Since few inexpensive rice cookers come with a glass lid, a keep warm feature, and a non-stick pot, the Panasonic has a lot in its favor.

Cons

Interestingly, even though the Panasonic SRG06FG 3-Cup Automatic Rice Cooker comes with a “keep warm” feature, it does not come with a warming feature. The rice cooker also has a tendency to boil over when the wrong measurements are selected or when too much water is placed in the cooker at once, because it does not have clamps to keep the glass lid in place.

Another issue is that the non-stick coating can peel off for some people, and will get inside the rice. It also does not come with a retractable cord, which can be a safety issue for some people. Finally, it does not have many of the features that people enjoy with their rice cooker. It is a simple “On/Off” design – click a button, let it run. There are no nifty settings or additional features.

Overall Impressions

The Panasonic SRG06FG 3-Cup Automatic Rice Cooker is not top of the line by any means. But for less than $30, it does not claim to be. For inexpensive rice cookers, it is one of the best available, but if you are looking for something a little more technologically advanced that is less likely to boil over and made of slightly sturdier ingredients, you may need to look elsewhere. You can buy it online here.
