Are rice cookers useful for college students?
Dorm rooms are an incredibly cramped place. Despite
the fun of moving out of your parent’s house for the first time, the dorm is
still very different than “real life” – as you have to share bathrooms,
kitchens, and hallways with dozens of other students, all looking to use
these tiny facilities at the same time.
The kitchen is where this creates a great deal of
difficulty. Most kitchens will have only one sink and possibly one oven, and
these items are constantly in use. Similarly, when you need to study and
spend time researching, it is hard to dedicate the time you need to cooking
a meal for yourself. You cannot leave a pot going in the kitchen unattended,
but a public space like that makes it hard to concentrate on your books.
Enter the Rice Cooker
Rice cooking is the perfect tool for college
students, especially those living in a cramped dorm. When you are living on
campus, the most common concerns with regards to food are:
·
Time to spend cooking.
·
Money to spend on the ingredients.
·
Ability to cook any item well with so
much on your mind.
These days few college students even know how to
cook, let alone how to make delicious meals for themselves in the
confinement of their dorms. There is always going to be cafeteria food, but
that food can be pricey, is often fattening and tasteless, and has been
sitting under heat lamps for possibly hours on end. Not to mention that it
is served by other college students, many of whom do not know the slightest
thing about food safety.
Rice cookers solve many of these problems single
handedly, and can create a better tasting and healthier meal in the process.
·
Time to spend cooking – With a rice
cooker, you simple need to measure rice, measure water, put it inside the
pot and press the start button. The cooker will do the work for you, and you
can go back to your books if necessary.
·
Money to spend – Rice is extremely
inexpensive, never gets old when dry, and the ingredients that you need to
make the rice into a more nutritious meal are extremely affordable. With a
rice cooker, meals can cost a tenth of the total cost of eating out, or
less.
·
Ability to cook well – Rice cookers do
all the cooking for you, so even if you have no knowledge of how to cook,
the rice cooker can complete the process correctly, giving you a great
tasting meal with little effort or know-how.
Rice cookers can also fit inside your dorm and are
not a fire hazard, so you can stay out of the crowded kitchen and make food
in your dorm room or apartment as soon as you have the free time. It is
fast, it is easy, and it saves a great deal of money over time. College is
expensive and time consuming. A rice cooker solves both of those problems
and more.
