Why should I get a rice cooker?
Everyone already owns a pot. Rice, for all its long history, is still just a simple grain that pretty much anyone can cook and enjoy. Rice cookers are by their very nature not “necessary” for the home, since as long as you have a lot of time on your hands, you can watch and cook rice to near perfection on your own that will be good enough for the members of your family to enjoy.
But as any cook knows, “good enough” is not what you are aiming for when you are cooking your daily meals. You want to enjoy your food, and savor its delicious taste. You also want to do so with the least amount of work possible, so that you can enjoy your day without having to slave over a kitchen.
Enter the Rice Cooker
The rice cooker is designed specifically to both improve the taste of your meal and increase the time you have available to work on other things. Rice cookers are completely independent – even the least expensive rice cookers available require no work from you other than putting the rice and water inside of the machine and pressing the “on” button.
For anywhere from 20 to 45 minutes after you have pressed the start button, you can do whatever you like – cook other foods, watch TV, converse with your family – you do not need to watch the rice, check on it, or ensure that it is cooking properly. There are even rice cookers that you can set up as many as 24 hours in advance, so that you can go to work, come home, and have delicious rice waiting for you.
Cooking Rice to Perfection
Not only are rice cookers doing all of the work – they are doing it better. They have the ability to instantly turn off once the rice is done, reducing drying and burning and improving taste and flavor. They also maintain the right heat, and are able to soak the rice in its own steam to support better taste.
Even the average person’s palate can taste the difference between well cooked rice cooker rice and rice made in a pot by hand. No matter how skilled a chef you are, mistakes happen often, and these mistakes lead to worse tasting rice.
Additional Uses
But if cooking better rice is not enough, rice cookers also have the ability to cook other meals. Quinoa, oatmeal and soups are all possible within the rice cooker, helping it easily take the place of other appliances you already have in your kitchen. Some rice cookers also come with steamers, which allow you to easily steam and warm meats and vegetables on the days where you plan on adding them to your meal.
Rice cookers may be a luxury item, but they are one that saves you a great deal of time, improves the flavor of your meals, and is able to provide you with several other uses around the kitchen, thereby increasing its value to your home and your family.
